Allsortz Open Mic 13th October 2014

Just before we headed off for a few special gigs at Queen Elizabeth Hall and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, we had our regular open mic night at Rich Mix and what a night it was!!
We had the pleasure of welcoming on stage 14 year old spoken word artist DiAndre, who had the audience in deep thought and in awe. An artist to definitely watch!

Up on stage we also had rapper Lanre F with his unique beats and flow; Taliaa Jay who performed a few covers and spoken word artist Anastasia who engaged the audience through the depth of her words.
As well as our main acts, we also encourage artists to sign up as a WildCard on the night. This particular evening, we had a stand out performance by Shaquille and his 2 guitarists. His young yet soulful voice filled the main space and even got the crowd wanting more…yup, we officially had the 2nd encore of 2014.

We had a few more WildCards take to the stage; Milly gave us a touch of pop with a twist, rapper Dark Knight had the crowd bopping their heads along to the beat and Genesis dropped an acapella.
Last but not least, we had rapper Lemzi take to the stage strapped with a backpack filled with his latest EP.
We have loads of up coming gigs, take a look at the dates and if you’re interested in performing get in touch!

Allsortz Open Mic, February 10th 2014

Written by Izara B

It was a Monday but not just any Monday, it was the second Monday of the month and that could only mean… Allsortz Open Mic was back.

Like no other open mic night, we were in the presence of allsorts (excuse the pun). First to grab the mic, was talented rapper Zuz Rock who, at one point, rapped over Marvin’s room beat with his unique flow. With his team present, the energy in the crowd was set off to a good start.

We were lucky to also welcome on stage a couple soulful acts. One of which was the funky blues sounds of Charl King and of course, back on the big stage the soulful three man strong team, better known as Soul Inc.
As well as all the main acts, the night wouldn’t be the same without Wildcards taking to the stage. James John Deacon was one of the first WildCards up with his acoustic guitar and we also welcomed back our very own Jolade, who performed a piece he memorised moments before going up on stage…that’s what we call skills.
Stand out performance of the WildCards was ½ of Sister Sidney, Claire Louise. From the very moment her fingers touched the guitar and her voice reached the audience’s ears, it felt like the room stopped. I’m pretty sure we could even hear a pin drop with such a beautiful tone like Claire’s captivating us all.

Moving back onto our main acts, we had Allsortz regular Natavan grace the stage with some more poetry. Singer songwriter Miss Sha also joined us and blew everyone’s minds with her incredibly powerful voice. I’m no vocalist coach but she definitely hit the right notes!
Our special treat of the night was from the cover band with no name who delivered a strong 5 piece set of great covers. Staying true to our happy Monday vibes, they even performed Pharrell William’s mighty successful track, ‘Happy’.

Last but not least, we ended the night with three rounds of talented WildCards. Kirtis Franklyn shared his poetry with the audience (loads of clicking involved), then followed by rapper Boy Nash and last but not least a poet by the name of Kelvin who performed for the very first time.

For those who don’t know, we were also joined by our very first sponsor Ireland Nigeria – a fashion line for music lovers who want to make a statement. Yes – that’s why the team had great t-shirts on and also we gave out some pretty good prizes. Remember, you saw it at #AllsortzOpenMic first!!

Don’t forget!! Allsortz will be supporting some great causes across the year by raising money. For the Month of February, to mark World Cancer day, we’re raising money for MacMillan Cancer support. To donate please go to justgiving.com/allsortzopenmic
Thank you to everyone who made it down to support all the great acts.
The next date for you diaries is Monday 10th March and we’ll have an all-female line up to celebrate International Women’s Day.
If you’re interested in performing email us on: allsortz01@hotmail.co.uk or sign up on the night (before 8pm) for a WildCard slot. Guys don’t be shy – Come and support some amazing female performers!

Allsortz Open Mic 10-06-2013

Written by Izara B

Once again we brought all-sorts (excuse the pun) of great talent from across London to the big stage at Rich Mix to get our weeks started right!

With a jam packed evening of performances, Jerome LDN took to the stage to kick start this month’s edition of Allsortz with his melodic voice which had the audience captivated from the very beginning.

Back on the Allsortz mic for a main slot were Wildcards from last month, Strive and Drama. Who individually delivered standout performances but also gave our audience an unexpected lyrical treat, by joining forces not once…but twice!!

Throughout the night the quality remained consistently high with performances from: Howell James who got the laughs going, Be Right Back with their passionate performance, Regina O with her thought provoking words and Mila Falls who kept the energy going from the very start.

Standout performance of the night was by LA Salami, with his unique tone alongside image rich lyrics which had us all in a trance. All of this whilst equipped with a harmonica and acoustic guitar…of course!!

(LA Salami showing us his musical skills)

Last but not least, James Decosta alongside his two talented guitarists and special guest brought the night to an end with a vocally powerful performance, which got us all ready for next month’s event!

But if that wasn’t enough, throughout the night we had short 60 second interviews with all our performers – so if you couldn’t make it down or want to know more about them, keep an eye out for that! And here they are!

Thanks to everyone who blessed the stage and of course, the audience who kept the support level high throughout the evening, making the atmosphere ideal for a happy Monday.

Stick next month’s date in your diary now and join us on Monday, July 8th.

If you’re interested in performing email: Allsortz01@hotmail.co.uk or turn up on the night and sign up to be a WildCard.
